Charice Pempengco
Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, better known by her screen name Charice (born May 10, 1992), is a Filipina singer. Charice Pempengco became a singing sensation throughout the world through YouTube.[1] She started joining singing contests at the age of thirteen but was locally when she placed third in Little Big Star.
Early years
Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco was born on May 10, 1992 to Raquel Relucio. She was born in Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines. Raquel noticed her daughter could sing very high when she sang "Happy Birthday" at the age of eight. So taking her music experience into account, she started teaching and training Pempengco voice lessons along with her sister. Pempengco began singing in local contests in the Philippines when she was only thirteen years old. It was when she was nine or ten years old that she got onto a table and sang "My Heart Will Go On", originally sung by Celine Dion.
Recording Career
Charice Pempengco joined in a local TV talent show, Little Big Star, and won third place. In the show, she performed American R&B singer Whitney Houston's 1992 cover version of "I Will Always Love You". In the video sharing website YouTube, a registed user uploaded the footage of this performance. Stockholm, Sweden-based record companies, Ten Songs Production and Extensive Talent Management, discovered it and subsequently requested Pempengco to record six songs for them.
